National Treasury has extended the deadline for public comments on its ‘Taxation of alcoholic beverages’ discussion paper.

The paper was published for public comment on November 13, alongside two other discussion papers, namely ‘The tax treatment of collective investment schemes’ and ‘Phase two of the carbon tax’.

All three papers had initial deadlines for public comment set for December 13.

However, Treasury said on December 3 that, since publication, it had received numerous requests to extend the comment period for the discussion paper on the taxation of alcoholic beverages.

After considering these requests, Treasury confirmed that the deadline for this paper would be extended to February 14.

However, the closing date for the other two discussion papers remains the close of business on December 13.

Written comments on the taxation of alcoholic beverages discussion paper can be sent to 2024Alcoholreview@treasury.gov.za.
